The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is clearly unprepared for the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Friday, April 18, 2025, Wike — a former Governor of Rivers State — asserted that his decision to back President Bola Tinubu in 2023 was the right one. He explained that the All Progressives Congress (APC) needed all the support it could get, given the unpopularity of the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration at the time.

Wike took a swipe at former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, claiming he’s not a man of his word and someone he would never trust again.

According to him:

“The PDP is not ready — that’s obvious. You don’t have to like me, but the real question is whether what I’m saying will help the party. The ongoing power tussle within the PDP is doing us no good.”

He continued:

“In 2023, I stood firm in my resolve not to support the PDP candidate. At that point, APC was struggling due to Buhari’s poor performance, but when I assessed the options, it was clear Atiku wasn’t one of them.”

Wike went further to recount a broken promise from 2019:

“Atiku, Saraki, and Secondus came to me and said I would nominate the Attorney General and Minister of Petroleum. After we lost the election, the person I nominated as AG wasn’t even aware when the legal team was formed.

“I called Saraki and asked — you people went ahead with forming the team without involving me, despite your earlier agreement. That’s my point — they don’t honor their words.”

He concluded:

“From the beginning, I knew Atiku would never stick to any agreement. I never relied on his promises. Looking back, I’m confident I made the right call. Now tell me — who exactly am I supposed to support for president in 2027? It makes no sense.”
