According to Ireporter Online, EbonyLife Films, under the leadership of renowned media entrepreneur Mo Abudu, has announced plans to release a feature film adaptation of Lola Shoneyin’s acclaimed novel, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives, in December 2026.

The forthcoming film delves into themes of power, rivalry and gender politics, set within the complex dynamics of a polygamous household. It features a star-studded ensemble cast, including Iyabo Ojo, Bimbo Ademoye and Omowunmi Dada, among others.

The project is being produced through a strategic partnership involving EbonyLife Films, Nile Media Entertainment, Genesis Group and Silverbird Group. The collaboration marks EbonyLife’s return to Nigerian cinemas after several years away from the big screen.

Mo Abudu, announcing the development via her social media platforms, described the project as a landmark moment, noting that the film represents the first-ever feature-length adaptation of Shoneyin’s celebrated literary work. She added that the unprecedented partnership with major cinema and media groups is aimed at taking the powerful story to audiences on a global scale.

First published in 2010, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives has earned international recognition for its incisive social commentary, particularly its exploration of marriage, fertility, tradition and female agency within contemporary African society.
