No doubt education is considered a vital element in the development of a society, a system, and a country.

Education is a gateway to peace and stability which the nation currently craves, It is, therefore, necessary to make deliberate efforts to develop the educational sector, especially in rural areas.

Rural education has its challenges and definitely its limitations.

Looking at the midterm scorecard on education by the lawmaker representing Owan Federal Constituency in the national assembly, Hon Prof Julius Ihonvbere proves a point that education can be a veritable tool in advancing a healthier and more sustainable future.

The lawmaker is using education to build capacity and knowledge amongst the rural populace. One striking detail about the lawmaker is the concerted effort to bridge the gap between rural education and urban education.

In rural communities, the school serves as a place for children to learn and be more sensible and informed, but there is a lack of educational facilities in these areas.

The kids do not have access to other learning activities that help mould the IQ of the child. They feel isolated and there aren’t as many programs to participate in.

Rural education’s importance is very critical in shaping the community child, the lawmaker representing Owan Federal Constituency has helped in no small measures in the provision of infrastructure and facilities to aid education such as the provision of instructional materials, hiring of more teaching staff, granting of student scholarships, strengthening supervisory functions, provision of chairs and tables for staff and students, computer sets, generators, paid Internet routers, textbooks, Notebooks as well as furniture for principals’ offices etc.

No fewer than 20 schools have benefitted directly from the people-oriented constituency projects by Prof Ihonvbere.

If Owan Federal Constituency starts churning out a huge amount of Professors in the nearest future we won’t be surprised.

Professor Julius Ihonvbere is using education in bringing about the needed social change in our communities, increasing the ability of people to make independent and smart decisions that affect their standard of living.

His passion in providing skilled labour in rural communities as well as linking rural and urban areas is very commendable.
