EFCC Launches Probe Into ₦10 Million Extortion Claim By Rapper Oladips

According to Ireporter Online, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has initiated an internal investigation following allegations by Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Oladimeji, popularly known as Oladips, that some of its operatives extorted ₦10 million from him.

The controversy stems from Oladips’ recent appearance on the Trending podcast, where he recounted his ordeal with the anti-graft agency. The rapper claimed that during a raid conducted in November 2024 at his estate, he was arrested alongside several neighbours on suspicion of internet fraud. He stated that despite spending five days in detention, nothing incriminating was found against him.

Oladips further alleged that he was forced to part with ₦10 million before securing his release, lamenting that his experience was another instance of how “Nigeria just happened to me.”

In response to the allegations, the EFCC, in a statement released on Saturday, expressed strong concern over the claims, insisting they do not represent the integrity or operational ethics of the Commission. The agency confirmed that the officers involved in the operation have been summoned to its headquarters and temporarily relieved of their duties pending the outcome of the investigation.

The EFCC emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring that any officer found guilty of misconduct would face disciplinary measures. Conversely, the agency warned that if Oladips’ allegations were discovered to be false or defamatory, appropriate legal action would also be taken.

The Commission urged the public to remain patient as it concludes its probe, reaffirming its dedication to combating economic and financial crimes with professionalism and integrity.
