Eight Arrested In Ogun Following Attacks On Police Officers Amid Violent Yoruba Republic Agitation

The arrests followed an incident at Temidire Junction and the Under-Bridge area of Sango-Ota, where the group, operating under the banner of the “Democratic Republic of the Yoruba,” reportedly barricaded major roads, set up bonfires, and impeded the free movement of vehicles. Police sources disclosed that officers on duty were attacked while attempting to disperse the crowd and restore normalcy.

Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that operatives swiftly mobilised to the affected locations after receiving reports of the disturbance and successfully brought the situation under control.

The suspects were identified as Adewale Sosanya (48), Opeyemi Oladotun (31), Zara Gabriel (22), Ajoke Gabriel (19), Adewale Adebomojo (48), Yusuf Tanimowo (40), Olurotimi Ademola (52), and Toyin Gabriel (40).

Items recovered from the suspects included a Toyota vehicle allegedly used for their movement, two public address speakers, a carton containing flags, shirts bearing inscriptions linked to their agitation, as well as banners displaying messages and a manifesto.

Police authorities noted that investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries. The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Lanre Ogunlowo, reiterated the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, warning that acts capable of breaching public peace or attacking security personnel would not be tolerated.

Residents were also urged to remain law-abiding and promptly report suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command’s designated emergency lines.
