Eight Years As Minister… What Did You Accomplish?’ – APC Leader Challenges Amaechi

An All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Tony Nwobodo, has challenged former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi over his record during his tenure in office. Speaking to reporters after visiting the Enugu South Local Government Chairman, Nwobodo questioned Amaechi’s moral authority to advise the South-East on voting decisions.

Nwobodo urged the people of the region to prioritize national interest over sentiment in the upcoming 2027 general elections and reaffirm their support for President Bola Tinubu. “Let nobody listen to anyone, even if the person is my own father. Let us come together as a state and as a nation and give honour to whom honour is due,” he stated.

Describing himself as a “multimillionaire” thanks to rising property values under the current administration, Nwobodo warned that the South-East would be making a serious strategic mistake by opposing the President’s re-election. “If we make this mistake, it will be like missing your exit on an expressway overseas; it will take a long way to find a route back. We are not ready to get back to where we were before; we have to be moving forward,” he said.

He further criticized Amaechi’s recent comments, asking, “I overheard Rotimi Amaechi saying if Tinubu wins again, he will do this and that, but when he was Minister for eight years, what did he do for us? Why is he coming now to advise us?”

Addressing concerns about increased taxation, Nwobodo, who spent over three decades living abroad, argued that the visible infrastructure development justifies the levies. “Overseas, where I lived for 34 years, I have been paying my taxes. All this while we were staying without tax, nothing was going on, and we were complaining. The tax goes on, and work goes on at the same time,” he noted.
