“Enugu Powers Civil Servants With 20,000 Computers, Launches Nutrition Drive”
The Enugu State Government has announced plans to establish food and nutrition units in select ministries as part of efforts to align with the national food policy and tackle poverty through enhanced food security, according to IReporter Online.
Speaking after the weekend’s State Executive Council (Exco) meeting, Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barr. Lloyd Ekweremadu; Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo; and the Head of Service, Dr. Godwin Anigbo, revealed that the initiative will involve key ministries including Human Development and Poverty Eradication, Education, Trade, Investment and Industry, Budget and Planning, Information and Communication, and Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation.
Ekweremadu noted that the move ties directly to Governor Peter Mbah’s vision of providing free meals at Smart Green Schools as they come on stream.
In a related development, the Head of Service disclosed that the government will distribute 20,000 personal computers to 20,000 civil servants, fully ushering in the digitisation of the state’s public service.
He said the adoption of technology will boost productivity, improve performance tracking, and strengthen the implementation of key reforms.
The digitisation project, according to IReporter Online, reflects the administration’s commitment to modernising governance and making civil service operations more efficient and transparent.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Government extended its appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing Prof. Simon Ortuanya — the first Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, from Enugu North Zone.
Commissioner Agbo described the appointment as a source of pride for the state and a recognition of Ortuanya’s academic and administrative excellence.
These decisions, according to IReporter Online, underscore the state’s twin priorities of human capital development through technology and improved public nutrition, both seen as vital pillars for long-term socio-economic growth.
