Ex-Council Chairmen, Officials In Jigawa To Receive Monthly Allowances

The Kirikasamma Local Government Area in Jigawa State has introduced monthly allowances for former council chairmen, deputies, secretaries, councillors, and other past political appointees as part of efforts to maintain engagement with former leaders.

The council chairman, Maji Wakili Marma, announced the initiative at the council headquarters on Monday, explaining that it is designed to foster collaboration and acknowledge the contributions of previous officeholders. Under the scheme, former chairmen will receive ₦50,000 monthly, deputies ₦40,000, secretaries ₦30,000, and ex-councillors ₦25,000. Marma assured that the allowances would be disbursed regularly to ensure sustainability.

He praised the former officials for their ongoing support and described their experience and input as invaluable to the development of the local government. According to him, approximately 100 former officeholders are expected to benefit from the programme, which he called a token of appreciation for their dedication and service.

“The council has taken this step to strengthen relations with our former leaders and leverage their wealth of experience,” Marma said. He added that the initiative aims to promote unity, encourage progress, and support community development, urging beneficiaries to continue offering guidance to the current administration.

Payments under the scheme are scheduled to begin this month, and beneficiaries will be invited to provide feedback to improve the programme, he noted. The initiative was officially unveiled at a meeting attended by both former and current council leaders.
