Ex-Kogi Governor’s ₦110.4bn Fraud Case: EFCC Releases Co-Defendants On Bail

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has granted bail to two co-defendants of former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, who are facing charges in a major ₦110.4 billion fraud case. EFCC counsel Jamiu Agoro informed the court that while Bello and his legal team were absent, the public summons for his appearance remained valid until November 17. The EFCC has requested an extension of time for Bello’s appearance should he fail to respond within the given period.

The case involves allegations that Bello and his co-defendants embezzled state funds and used them to acquire various properties, both within Nigeria and internationally. The EFCC claims that Bello misused state funds to purchase real estate in Abuja, Dubai, and other locations, including a hotel apartment in Burj Khalifa and multiple properties in high-end areas of the Nigerian capital. The charges against the defendants include conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, and the illegal possession of assets. The EFCC has requested a hearing notice to be posted at Bello’s last known address in Abuja, and proceedings have been adjourned until November 27 for further action.
