The Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service for military personnel, finalized on December 14, 2024, outlines the retirement entitlements for top-ranking officers such as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Staff, as well as other senior officers. These officers will receive a bulletproof SUV, along with a backup vehicle, which will be replaced every four years and maintained by the Armed Forces.

Retired generals will also enjoy a range of luxury benefits, including domestic aides, security personnel, and residential guards. High-ranking officers like Lieutenant Generals are entitled to foreign medical treatment, an annual $20,000 medical allowance, and a significant number of household staff, including cooks, stewards, and guards.

Specific Benefits Include:

• Top Officers: Bulletproof SUV and backup vehicle, along with 5 domestic staff (cooks, stewards, gardener), 3 military drivers, and 9 security personnel.
• Lieutenant Generals: Two vehicles (Toyota Hilux or Land Cruiser), $20,000 for annual medical care, and 4 residential guards, with domestic staff included.
• Major Generals & Brigadier Generals: One Toyota Land Cruiser, $15,000 for medical care, and domestic staff for assistance.
• One-Star Generals: One Toyota Camry, $10,000 for medical care, and similar household assistance.
• Colonels: Toyota Corolla or equivalent and free medical care within Nigeria.

The new benefits are a marked increase over previous arrangements, reflecting current socio-economic realities. While such retirement packages have been customary for top military officials, the revised terms are significantly more generous.
