FAAN Breaks Silence, Reveals Official Reopening Date for Enugu Airport!

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced that the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State will reopen for operations starting Monday.
reports that FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, revealed this while addressing journalists on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Orah stated that the airport’s reopening follows the successful completion of emergency repairs on the runway, which FAAN engineers have now certified as safe for both landings and takeoffs.
FAAN extended its gratitude to airport users and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation during the closure, assuring the public that all actions taken were aimed at ensuring safety.
In her words: “The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the reopening of Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, from Monday, 28th April 2025, following the conclusion of emergency runway repairs.
“On April 18th, 2025, FAAN announced the temporary closure of the airport after a significant rupture was discovered on a critical section of the runway, prompting urgent repair works.
“Originally, repairs were slated to begin on April 22nd and be completed by May 6th, 2025. However, rehabilitation works progressed faster than anticipated, and the runway has now been cleared for flight operations by FAAN’s engineering team.”
