The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has unveiled a new domestic cargo terminal at the General Aviation Terminal (GAT) in Lagos, as part of its broader push to upgrade aviation logistics across the country.

According to reports, FAAN disclosed that similar cargo terminals will soon be established in Kano, Jos, Niger, and Port Harcourt.

In a statement released on Friday, FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, stated that the initiative—spearheaded by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and executed by the Directorate of Cargo Development and Services under Mr. Lekan Thomas—is aimed at enhancing export operations and reinforcing Nigeria’s cargo infrastructure.

The new facility was formally commissioned on Friday by FAAN’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, who was represented by the Director of Commercial and Business Development, Ms. Joy Agunbiade.

The terminal is expected to streamline cargo handling processes through improved efficiency, scalability, and connectivity. With the growing demand for e-commerce and agricultural exports, the facility is set to offer secure, reliable logistics that will ease operational delays and support businesses nationwide.

“Lagos is now strategically positioned as a major cargo hub, expected to draw both domestic and international freight operators,” the statement added. FAAN also confirmed that similar cargo processing centers will be rolled out in Abuja, Kano, Jos, Niger, and Port Harcourt to ensure nationwide access to modern cargo infrastructure.

“This initiative is in line with FAAN’s strategic vision to decentralize and modernize cargo operations across Nigeria,” Orah concluded.
