FCT Elections: Nigerians Now Know The True Ruling Party And The Real Opposition – Wike
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as the peaceful and credible conduct of the recent Area Council elections in Abuja, stating that the outcome has clearly defined the nation’s ruling party and the genuine opposition.
According to Ireporter Online, Wike made the remarks during a special broadcast on Sunday evening, where he applauded residents of the FCT for their orderly participation in the polls. He noted that the calm atmosphere that characterized the exercise reflected the people’s dedication to democracy and good governance.
The Minister said the election results underscored growing political awareness among Nigerians, stressing that voters were no longer swayed by superficial campaign tactics. He criticized what he termed “emergency democrats” who engage in symbolic gestures, such as patronizing roadside traders during campaigns, to win public sympathy. He asserted that FCT residents demonstrated discernment and refused to be misled by political theatrics.
Wike expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for ongoing infrastructural and developmental strides in the capital city, describing the election as a validation of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said the reforms and leadership style of the President have restored optimism and strengthened public confidence in governance.
He also praised the participation of all candidates in the election, noting that their involvement reinforced democratic values and ensured that diverse voices were represented in the political process. The Minister extended congratulations to both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on their victories, emphasizing that the exercise highlighted the clear political structure of the country.
Furthermore, he lauded the Independent National Electoral Commission for conducting what he described as a free, fair, and credible poll. Wike attributed the successful exercise to ongoing electoral reforms and the administration’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions.
The Minister equally commended security agencies for maintaining law and order throughout the election period, stating that their professionalism contributed significantly to the peaceful outcome. He reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to continue improving democratic processes and advancing development across the Federal Capital Territory.
