FCT Police Crack Down Hard: Firecrackers Banned Ahead Of Christmas Festivities

According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has announced a strict ban on the sale, purchase, and use of firecrackers, knockouts, and all forms of unauthorized pyrotechnics ahead of the Christmas season.

The spokesperson for the Command, SP Josephine Adeh, explained that the decision follows growing concern over the increasing circulation of these explosive items across Abuja. She warned that firecrackers pose significant dangers, including the risk of injuries, fire outbreaks, and avoidable panic among residents.

Adeh added that such explosives could be exploited by criminals to conceal unlawful activities, stressing that their reckless use disrupts public peace and endangers vulnerable groups, especially children, the elderly, and individuals with health challenges.

Residents of the FCT were urged to strictly comply with the directive, as police operatives have been instructed to enforce the ban and ensure that offenders are arrested and prosecuted.

The Command also encouraged the public to remain alert and report anyone found selling or using firecrackers to the nearest police station or through the emergency contact lines: 08032003913 and 08068587311.
