FCT Police Deploy Over 2,200 Officers To Secure Yuletide Festivities

According to Ireporter Online, the Federal Capital Territory Police Command has launched an extensive security operation across Abuja, deploying 2,202 officers to protect residents and visitors during the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

The initiative follows directives from the FCT Commissioner of Police, Miller Dantawaye, calling for heightened security at worship centres, recreational areas, and other public spaces as part of the 2025 festive season operational plan.

In a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, police personnel have been strategically stationed at churches, mosques, event centres, major highways, motor parks, and other high-traffic areas. Adeh emphasized that the deployment aims to guarantee a peaceful, secure, and trouble-free festive season.

The statement further noted that areas considered vulnerable, including black spots, uncompleted buildings, and shanties, are under close surveillance and, where necessary, raided to prevent criminal activity. Tactical units, rapid response squads, and patrol teams are actively engaged, supported by increased vehicular and foot patrols throughout the territory.

The FCT Police Command is also collaborating with other security agencies to ensure comprehensive coverage during the holiday period. Explosive Ordnance Disposal units have been assigned to conduct security sweeps at worship centres and other large gathering points, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police.

Residents have been urged to stay vigilant, comply with the law, and report any suspicious activities to nearby police stations or through the FCT Police emergency lines. Security officials stressed that the festive season often sees heightened risks due to increased travel, public gatherings, and commercial activity nationwide.
