FCTA Workers Set for Three-Day Protest Over Poor Welfare

The Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has announced plans to stage a three-day protest beginning Monday, June 30, 2025, over what it described as the persistent disregard of staff welfare by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

JUAC President, Rifkatu Iortyer, issued a directive on Thursday instructing all members and affiliated unions to mobilise and converge daily at the FCT Minister’s office gate in Area 11, Garki, from 7:00 am throughout the protest duration.

According to Iortyer, the planned demonstration is in response to several unresolved issues, including the failure to promote staff since 2023, discrepancies in salary administration, and the non-payment of outstanding entitlements.

The union is also demanding sweeping structural reforms, improved welfare packages, and an end to what it termed illegal salary deductions. Among the key demands is the immediate removal of the FCT Civil Service Commission Chairman and the abolition of overseeing director roles.

Additional complaints include the non-domestication of the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System (IPPIS), inaccessibility of the salary portal by payroll officers, suspension of overhead funding since December 2024, and non-payment of five months’ wage awards and health workers’ hazard allowance arrears.

The union also decried the lack of staff training and development, the increasing number of out-of-school children in FCTA primary schools, and the non-payment of members of the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) enforcement squad.

It is worth noting that FCT teachers have been on strike since April over similar concerns, including the delayed implementation of the ₦70,000 minimum wage.

JUAC maintains that the protests will continue until their demands are met.
