Former PDP Youth Leader Abdullahi MaiBasira Steps Down From Party

A former National Youth Leader and National Financial Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Hussaini MaiBasira, has announced his resignation from the party with immediate effect, Ireporter Online has learned.

MaiBasira conveyed his decision in a resignation letter dated December 22, 2025, addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Tudun Wada South Ward in Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State. In the letter, he expressed appreciation to the party for the opportunities accorded him during his years of service in various national and auxiliary roles.

He described his departure as a deeply difficult and emotionally demanding decision, noting that he had maintained unwavering loyalty to the PDP since his initial registration as a member. According to him, recent developments within the political space forced a sober reflection on what he termed “obvious circumstances and suffocating realities,” which ultimately necessitated a change in political direction.

Despite his exit, MaiBasira extended goodwill and prayers to members of the PDP ward executive and the broader party structure in Minna, Niger State, and across the country, assuring them of his continued respect and warm regards.

As at the time of this report, the former youth leader has yet to publicly announce his next political move. However, political observers note that MaiBasira, a known ally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, is widely expected to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The party has recently intensified efforts to consolidate itself as a major opposition platform ahead of the 2027 general elections, with many of MaiBasira’s supporters already believed to have made similar moves.
