FRSC Returns Nearly ₦700K, Phones Recovered from Deadly Badagry Crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Badagry Unit Command, has returned N692,850 in cash along with mobile phones recovered from the scene of a tragic road accident on Badagry Expressway to the families of the victims. The incident, which involved a commercial Mazda bus with 18 passengers, occurred at the Atura axis of Mile 2 when the vehicle collided with a stationary truck.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, the horrifying crash resulted in the death of eight passengers, with six confirmed dead at the scene and two others succumbing to their injuries en route to the hospital. An additional 13 passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and were swiftly taken to the General Hospital in Badagry by FRSC officers who responded to the emergency.

Unit Commander Mr. William Manga, while presenting the recovered cash and personal belongings to relatives, confirmed that the fatal accident happened on July 6 and was caused by excessive speeding and reckless overtaking by the bus driver. He praised the professionalism of his team, who not only evacuated the injured but also ensured the deceased were deposited respectfully at the hospital’s morgue.

Some relatives of the victims had earlier visited the command to retrieve smaller sums—N40,000 and N5,000—left behind by their loved ones. The latest round of returned items was acknowledged by Alhaji Tsoho Babangida, who received them on behalf of four families. He expressed gratitude to the FRSC for their transparency and compassion.

ACCORDING TO IREPORTER ONLINE, Alhaji Haruna Sanni, Chairman of the Arewa Community in Badagry, disclosed that the victims were Mile 2-based traders headed to Seme to purchase fruits and vegetables including carrots and Irish potatoes. He commended the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring the victims’ valuables were returned to their rightful families without delay.

The FRSC has been applauded for its integrity and diligence in this matter, with many observers noting that such responsible actions help restore public confidence in emergency response institutions.
