Fubara Impeachment Plot Dead On Arrival” — APC Chieftain
According to Ireporter Online, a senior chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly dismissed reports suggesting a plot to impeach Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, describing such claims as unfounded and politically motivated.
The party leader, who spoke anonymously, stated that there is no genuine move within the APC to remove the governor, stressing that the ruling party remains committed to promoting stability, peace and good governance in Rivers State rather than engaging in political confrontation.
He explained that allegations of an impeachment plan exist only in speculation and have been exaggerated by individuals pursuing personal or political interests. According to the source, the APC is more concerned about fostering an atmosphere conducive to development and unity, especially amid the prevailing political tensions in the state.
Meanwhile, developments at the Oyigbo High Court in Port Harcourt have added a legal dimension to the situation, as the court adjourned indefinitely a suit filed by Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, challenging the impeachment process initiated by the Rivers State House of Assembly.
Justice Florence Fiberesima took the decision to suspend proceedings after being informed that two separate appeals relating to the matter had been lodged at the Court of Appeal. The judge ruled that the appellate court must first address the issues raised before the lower court can continue with the case.
At the hearing, counsel to the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, alongside 27 lawmakers, S.I. Amen (SAN), notified the court of the pending appeals and applied orally for a stay of proceedings. The application was not opposed by counsel representing the claimants and other defendants involved in the suit.
