Fubara Shakes Up Cabinet, Appoints New Chief Of Staff And Rivers SSG

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has approved the appointments of a new Secretary to the State Government and a new Chief of Staff at the Government House in Port Harcourt. According to Ireporter Online, the announcement was made on Thursday, February 26, 2026, through a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi.

Dagogo Wokoma has been appointed as the new Secretary to the State Government, while Sunny Ewule takes over as the Chief of Staff. Both appointments are effective immediately. The swearing-in ceremony for the new officials is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Executive Council Chamber of the Government House in Port Harcourt.

No official explanation has been provided for the removal of the former office holders. Wokoma succeeds Benibo Anabraba as Secretary to the State Government, and Ewule replaces Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff. Ehie’s role had attracted attention in recent months amid political tensions in the state, particularly following a fallout between Governor Fubara and his former ally, Nyesom Wike, who currently serves as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

The political tension had escalated to an impeachment attempt against the governor by members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, which was later halted following the intervention of President Bola Tinubu. The President reportedly encouraged reconciliation between the parties, prompting the Speaker of the House, Martin Amaewhule, to announce the withdrawal of the impeachment process against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

Prior to these latest appointments, Governor Fubara had dissolved his cabinet, which included eight commissioners, and relieved all Special Advisers of their duties, signaling a major reshuffle of his administration.
