Fuel Price Hikes Twice In 24 Hours As NNPCL Adjusts Pump Rates

Findings indicate that the latest increase followed an earlier price adjustment made just a day earlier, when petrol was sold at ₦839 per litre after rising from ₦815. The most recent hike represents a further increase, bringing the cumulative adjustment to ₦60 per litre within a single day.

The new pump price has already taken effect at NNPCL retail stations located in areas such as Gwarimpa, Kubwa Express, Wuse Zones 4 and 6, as well as other parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

An attendant at one of the affected stations, who spoke on condition of anonymity, confirmed that the directive for the new price was received late on Wednesday, with implementation commencing the following day.

The attendant explained that sales were initially conducted at ₦839 per litre before the sudden upward review to ₦875.

Private fuel marketers have also reviewed their prices upward. Filling stations operated by Ranoil, Empire Energy and other independent marketers in Abuja were observed selling petrol at prices ranging between ₦899 and ₦900 per litre.

Similarly, MRS filling stations adjusted their pump price, increasing it by ₦100 to sell petrol at ₦839 per litre. A manager at one of the company’s outlets in Abuja confirmed that the new rate was in effect as of Thursday.

The latest surge in pump prices is coming on the heels of a recent increase in ex-depot prices by Dangote Refinery and other depot owners, with rates reportedly rising above ₦799 per litre.
