Fury In Jeddah! Al-Ittihad Fans Burn Benzema’s Shirt After Sh*ck Al-Hilal Switch
Anger has reportedly swept through sections of the Al-Ittihad fanbase following Karim Benzema’s controversial switch to Saudi Pro League rivals Al-Hilal, with images emerging of supporters burning jerseys bearing the striker’s name in protest. According to Ireporter Online, the backlash was triggered by Benzema’s decision to join a direct title contender after spending two and a half seasons with Al-Ittihad.
Videos and photographs circulating widely on social media show visibly frustrated fans setting fire to Benzema-branded shirts, expressing deep disappointment over what many view as a betrayal. The reaction highlights the emotional response among supporters who had previously embraced the former Real Madrid captain as a club legend.
Benzema, who joined Al-Hilal on a free transfer after declining a contract renewal offer from Al-Ittihad, addressed fans through a farewell message shared on X. In his statement, the 38-year-old reflected on his time at the club and expressed gratitude to the management, teammates, and supporters for their backing throughout his stay.
He noted that his journey at Al-Ittihad was both personally and professionally rewarding, adding that he departs with pride over what was achieved together. Benzema also praised the club’s leadership and its positive influence on the community, while wishing the team success in the future.
The French striker joined Al-Ittihad in the summer of 2023 and played a key role in the club’s Saudi Pro League title triumph during the 2024–2025 season, featuring alongside high-profile teammates such as N’Golo Kanté and Fabinho. Despite his age, Benzema has remained influential on the pitch, registering 16 goals in 21 appearances across all competitions this season.
However, reports suggest his departure was fueled by dissatisfaction with Al-Ittihad’s contract proposal, which he reportedly felt did not reflect his value. The move has since sparked outrage among some fans who once celebrated his contributions to the club.
