Game Changer: Peter Obi Joins Forces With Atiku for 2027 Presidential Race – Insider Reveals

A recent report suggests that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar may have offered Peter Obi, the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, the position of running mate in a proposed joint ticket for the 2027 presidential election.

According to multiple sources quoted by Punch, the offer was tabled earlier this year during a private meeting between Atiku and Obi in the United Kingdom.

Insiders revealed that Atiku has pledged to serve only one four-year term, with an agreement to hand over power to Obi afterward. It was also disclosed that Obi has tentatively accepted the vice-presidential slot.

A senior party figure noted that both leaders are now in consultation with their inner circles to build consensus.

“By May 2026, most political parties will have rolled out their presidential candidates for 2027. The coalition talks are strategically aligned with that timeline,” the source said.

“They both believe only a united front—particularly an Atiku-Obi alliance—can unseat Tinubu. Discussions are in the final stages.”

The source added that the initial conversation happened earlier this year in the UK, where Atiku floated the coalition idea and offered Obi the VP slot. Obi reportedly requested time to consult his followers. However, signs now point to an agreement being reached, including the possibility of a formal written pact.

With internal crises affecting both the PDP and the Labour Party, another insider disclosed that the coalition is considering the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a possible platform.

“Both the PDP and LP are struggling with internal conflicts. Although efforts are ongoing to resolve the issues, the ADC is being considered as a backup. Some loyalists have already been engaging with ADC leadership, and others have discreetly joined.”

When contacted for clarification, Yunusa Tanko, the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, denied knowledge of such an arrangement.

“As far as I know, after my last meeting with Peter Obi in Benin, no such discussions have been brought to my attention. He hasn’t mentioned anything of the sort to me,” Tanko stated.
