Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reportedly forwarded a list of commissioner nominees to the Rivers State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation, in what observers describe as a strategic step to restore stability in the state’s governance structure.

According to Ireporter Online, sources familiar with the development revealed that the list was transmitted to lawmakers on Friday, shortly after the governor dissolved the State Executive Council and relieved all Special Advisers of their appointments. The move is widely interpreted as part of ongoing reconciliation efforts following the political crisis that engulfed the state.

The fresh development is believed to be connected to the truce reportedly facilitated by President Bola Tinubu between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, whose political rivalry had deepened tensions within the state. The list was said to have been submitted to the Assembly under the leadership of Speaker Martin Amaewhule, whose position was affirmed by the Supreme Court during the height of the crisis.

Lawmakers are expected to commence the screening process in the coming days, with indications that some nominees may emerge from Wike’s political camp as part of the reconciliation framework. Sources further hinted that commissioners who demonstrated strong performance in the previous cabinet could be considered for reappointment.

Before the cabinet’s dissolution, the governor had reportedly been operating with a reduced team of eight commissioners amid the prolonged standoff with the Assembly. There are also suggestions that a new Chief of Staff may be appointed to strengthen administrative coordination as the reconciliation process progresses.

The inauguration of the facility is being viewed as both a symbolic and practical step toward consolidating peace between the executive and legislative arms of government.
