Governor Fubara’s Igbo Appointment Sparks Discontent in Northern Nigeria

Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has voiced strong dissatisfaction with Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s recent cabinet appointment, which has notably excluded Northern representation. According to a report by Guardian Nigeria, ACF Chairman Musa Saidu criticized the Governor for appointing an individual from Abia State, highlighting growing frustrations among Northern Nigerians.

Saidu articulated concerns that this appointment, which favors an Igbo individual over Northern candidates, exacerbates long-standing grievances about marginalization in political appointments. He argued that this exclusion is a continuation of the historical sidelining of Northerners in previous administrations, further fueling discontent in the region.

In his statement, Saidu emphasized the significance of Northern contributions to the state and urged Governor Fubara to engage with Northern leaders to address these concerns. “We are dismayed by the absence of Northerners in the recent appointment of commissioners by Governor Sim Fubara. Appointing an Igbo individual while sidelining Northerners reflects a clear bias. This situation could foster division within the community, and we call on the Governor to consult with Northern leaders to resolve these issues,” Saidu said.

The ACF’s remarks reflect broader regional tensions and highlight the need for inclusive governance that acknowledges and represents the diverse demographic of Nigeria.
