Gunmen Kill Nine-Month-Old Baby, Three Others in Fresh Plateau Attack

Gunmen struck again in Plateau State, killing four people — including a nine-month-old baby — during a brutal ambush in the Nkiendowro community of Bassa Local Government Area.

The victims, which included two women and one man, were transporting harvested tomatoes from their farm to Jos’s Farin-Gada market when they were attacked on Wednesday near a bridge linking Tegbe and Nkiendowro.

The Miango Youths Development Association’s spokesman, Joseph Chudu, confirmed the incident in a statement to PUNCH Metro on Thursday. According to him, two others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment in the hospital, while the deceased have been moved to the mortuary.

“The victims had finished loading baskets of tomatoes when they were ambushed and killed by the gunmen,” Chudu said. “This is yet another tragic event in a long series of unprovoked attacks on our people.”

Lamenting the frequency of such attacks, Chudu questioned the effectiveness of the country’s democratic system. “Every day, people are being killed and the perpetrators walk free. We don’t know what to do anymore. The killings are just too much,” he said.

Despite efforts to reach the Plateau State Police Command for an official comment, spokesman Alabo Alfred’s phone was switched off at the time of filing this report.

The incident has reignited concerns over security in rural Plateau communities, where attacks on farmers and villagers have become increasingly common.
