The incident occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday. According to an eyewitness, more than ten gunmen stormed the New Market area of Enugu, shooting sporadically and scaring people away.

However, Enugu Police Command spokesman DSP Daniel Ndukwe stated that the command has restored normalcy and that a crack team has been deployed to track down the miscreants.

Residents should go about their lawful business, he said in a statement, and disregard the five-day sit-at-home order.
