Herdsmen Kill 11 In Benue Attack

No fewer than 11 persons have been reported killed by suspected herdsmen in Tse Amgbem village in Gwer West local government area of Benue State.

A traditional ruler, Chief Daniel Abomtse said the assailants armed with sophisticated weapons attacked the village.

They shot in the air as they surrounded the village, sending terrified residents in different directions.

Chief Abomtse said houses were set ablaze and other properties destroyed.

Hundreds of displaced persons have been sheltering at camps near Naka town.

Police could not confirm the incident before press time but Special Adviser, Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ken Achabo has called on the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to provide relief materials for the displaced persons.

Achabo addressed the displaced persons at Agagbe and Aondona, assuring them of Governor Samuel Ortom commitment to the fight against insurgency in the state.

The Special Adviser said over 15 persons have been killed, and more injured and displaced in over 10 council wards.

Achabo urged security agencies in the area to deploy more personnel to the flashpoints to protect the people.
