High Voltage Tragedy in Gombe Claims Five Lives, Injures 13

A tragic power surge in Gombe State has resulted in the deaths of five people and injuries to thirteen others in the Tudun-Wadan Pantami area of the state capital.

The Gombe State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement released on Saturday by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi. He explained that the high-voltage power supply caused severe electrical damage and led to electrocutions and injuries, while also affecting nearby metallic objects and household appliances.

“Officers from the Low-cost Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly responded to the distress call, securing the scene and facilitating the evacuation of victims to medical facilities,” the police spokesperson stated.

Preliminary investigations revealed that five individuals lost their lives, while thirteen others sustained various injuries. The injured are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals across the state capital. The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at a local morgue.

In addition to human casualties, the surge also caused extensive property damage, particularly to electrical appliances within the affected area.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety and regulation of power distribution in residential areas. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of the voltage spike, but an investigation is ongoing.

Local residents are calling for accountability and urgent intervention to prevent such tragedies in the future.
