“Those whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.” -This is an ancient saying credited to Euripides, the Greek dramatist who lived in the fifth century BC.
This is a pathetic story of how an alleged notorious land grabber in Benin City, Mr Bekts Fufeyin AKA Bman has landed himself in a deep mess that may consume him for a very long time.
Land grabbing is a common phenomenon in Edo State and Benin City, in particular, their activities have led to the unfortunate incidence of making a rich landlord turn into a poor homeless beggar overnight.
They have made communities fight themselves thereby resulting in undesired bloodshed and loss of lives. Their activities have led to many broken homes and left countless suicide victims.
Their heinous actions can not be overemphasized as they can be defined as apostles straight from the pit of hell underserving of mercy.
Like karma would always have its way, the day of reckoning is here and all men must give account for their stewardship.
Mr Bekts Fufeyin has been in the land-grabbing racket for ages working in collaboration with some relations of big families in Benin City, all with the sole aim of dislodging people of their inheritance or hard-earned investments.
Usually, they have a good network of relationships with these big Benin families that leave tons of properties behind for their beneficiaries.
These racketeers having the knowledge of all the properties left behind by the late Benefactor would begin the tedious process of duplicating these documents and start making massive sales. They have a strong network with the security agencies and always keep ready money available to bribe police officers.
Land matters in Benin City are treated as domestic affairs and not criminal cases. So they always get away with it.
But herein lies the problem of Bekts Fufeyin, always getting away with grabbing people’s properties and lands. This notorious land grabber was found wanting in another criminal case of defamation of character and was sentenced to jail.
While in jail during the #Endsars protest he allegedly broke out of the correctional centre in Benin City and went at large. But like the “ancient” wise proverb of OLD, “Those whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad.”
Not one to be idle not doing anything and can’t afford to survive as a fugitive, Oga Bman came out of his trenches and started the illegal possessions of peoples properties. With a successful sale of his mother’s property, he was armed with some good cash so he thereafter decided to encroach on a property located at 12, Ihasogie street off Akhionbare Street in GRA, Benin City.
This time around he met his waterloo and was whisked away to Abuja after so many unsuccessful attempts to buy the case his way at the force headquarters in Benin City.
Now breeze don blow fowl yansh don open, the fugitive has been identified and may likely face the full wrath of the law plus its additional consequences of a jailbreak.
More details to follow as this is a developing story.
