How Losing My Mother Made Me Question God – Abuja Cleric Apostle Orokpo

According to Ireporter Online, Apostle Michael Orokpo, founder of Encounter Jesus Ministry International in Abuja, has opened up about how the death of his mother in 2010 profoundly shook his faith and led him to turn away from God for a year.

In an interview shared on the PriesthoodTv Facebook Page, the cleric recounted that he had been deeply devoted to God at the time, actively preaching and participating in church activities, before the sudden loss of his mother, whom he described as an intercessor, left him heartbroken and angry with God.

“The loss broke me so much that I became bitter with God. I went back into the world, indulging in alcoholism and nightlife. It was a very difficult year from 2010 to 2011,” Apostle Orokpo said.

He also reflected on another devastating moment in 2017, when his brother passed away despite extensive prayers, fasting, and spiritual interventions. The cleric said the experience left him emotionally shattered for months.

“It was like an arrow thrust into my soul. I wept for months. The scriptures did not make sense to me. I would go to lonely places, play some songs, and just cry because that was all I could do,” he said.

Apostle Orokpo further revealed that three years ago, he faced a challenging period marked by controversies and accusations while actively serving in ministry. He explained that these experiences affected his messages until a warning from the Holy Spirit prompted him to return to prayer.

The cleric said that despite these trials, the encounters strengthened his faith and renewed his commitment to serving God. “What I came out of those encounters with is that all I live for now is to please God, do the will of God, and resist the devil,” he concluded.
