Afrobeats star Davido has recounted how he landed in serious trouble for abandoning school back in 2011 to pursue a musical performance in Ibadan. According to Ireporter Online, the singer reflected on the incident in a recent Instagram post, recalling his determination at the time to balance university life with his rising passion for music.

He explained that he left Babcock University after being picked up by Asa, Peju, B-Red and Sina, joining the popular “Lynxxx and Friends” tour in Ibadan. Davido said the performance unexpectedly aired on national television, a moment that immediately sparked tension at home when his father saw the broadcast.

Now, 14 years later, the award-winning artist has returned to Ibadan as part of his nationwide “5ive Alive Tour,” performing to massive crowds and demonstrating how far that early risk helped propel his career. The tour has already moved across several major cities, drawing thousands of fans at each stop.

Reflecting on his journey, Davido described the Ibadan stadium performance as a defining moment and urged fellow artists to continue contributing to the growth of the local industry. He also thanked the sponsors supporting the historic tour, noting that Abuja and Lagos are the next stops before he heads to Atlanta to celebrate his birthday with a concert at the State Farm Arena on November 20.
