Delta State Government Ifeanyi Okowa on Wednesday stated that he sacked members of his cabinet to avoid distractions of his administration caused by some of them aspiring for political positions come 2023.

The governor who made this known during his quarterly press briefing said the decision was taken to refocus his administration in delivering on his stronger Delta agenda for the state.

It could be recalled that the immediate past commissioner of information, Charles Aniagwu, on Tuesday, after the State Executive Council Meeting announced the sacking of all commissioners, SpecialAdvisers, Secretary to the State Government, Senior Political Adviser and Chief of Staff by the governor.

However, the governor disclosed that some members of his cabinet are becoming distracted, adding that there was a need to introduce fresh hands and ideas that will redirect his government towards delivering on his campaign promises.

Okowa said, “There are some who are very good to me and my government. If I don’t take the action, I will run a permanently divided cabinet for the next two years and that would hinder me and my government to achieve what I want to achieve.”

On his successor, the governor said, “Only God knows who will become the next governor and which Senatorial District it will come from. There is no formal meeting or written agreement for the zoning of the governorship in Delta State. I’m still praying to God and he is yet to give me direction.”

The governor who further re-echoed the resolutions taken by the Southern Governors, which has now gained acceptance as the ‘Asaba Accord’ noted that current happenings in the country call for serious concerns, adding that the country as it is today is not the Nigeria of our dreams.

He maintained that the resolutions taken by the Southern governors’ forum was not only to the benefit of the south but all of Nigeria and therefore advised those reading a different narrative to it to change their position.
