“I Was Never Paid A Dime For ‘Do Me’ – Waje Opens Up On P-Square’s Hit Song”
Nigerian singer Waje has revealed that she was the female voice behind P-Square’s 2007 hit track Do Me but was never compensated for her contribution to the iconic song.
Speaking in a recent interview on the Honest Bunch Podcast with Daddy Freeze, the award-winning vocalist recounted her early struggles in the music industry and how her voice became a defining element of one of P-Square’s most popular records.
According to Ireporter Online, Waje, whose full name is Aituaje Iruobe, stated that she sang the chorus of Do Me but was neither credited nor featured on the track officially. She recalled that many people doubted her claim of being the voice behind the song because her name was missing from the credits.
The singer noted that Do Me played a significant role in bringing her to the limelight, as the hit track dominated airwaves across Nigeria and Africa at the time. However, she missed appearing in the music video because she did not have an international passport during the shoot.
Do Me was featured on P-Square’s third studio album, Game Over, a project that solidified the duo’s reputation as one of Africa’s leading pop groups in the 2000s. Peter and Paul Okoye, who made up the iconic group, went their separate ways in 2016 following personal and managerial disputes but briefly reunited in 2021 before continuing their solo careers.
