ICPC Drags El-Rufai For Questioning After Dramatic Airport Arrest Attempt (Photos)

Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has confirmed that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has invited him for questioning at its office.

According to Ireporter Online, the former governor disclosed in a statement shared on his verified account on Friday that he received an official invitation letter from the anti-graft agency. He stated that the letter, requesting his appearance on Friday, 13 February, was delivered to him at about 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, 12 February.

El-Rufai, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), however, said his legal representatives had responded to the commission, informing it that he would honour the invitation on Wednesday, 18 February 2026. He maintained that he remains willing to cooperate with any lawful investigation, as conveyed in the letter written by his lawyers to the ICPC.

The development comes on the heels of an earlier incident involving security operatives who reportedly attempted to arrest the former governor at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport upon his return from Cairo, Egypt. The attempted arrest was unsuccessful and has since drawn criticism from some of his associates and political allies.

Speaking during an interview with BBC Hausa, El-Rufai alleged that the move against him was politically motivated, claiming that it followed his public disagreement with policies of the administration of President Bola Tinubu. He nevertheless insisted that he would not retreat from political engagement or advocacy despite the unfolding events.
