ICPC Secures N37.44 Billion And $2.35 Million Within 11 Months

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has recovered N37.44 billion and $2.353 million in 2025 through asset seizures and forfeitures, according to the agency’s spokesman, John Okor Odey.

Describing this as one of the commission’s most significant annual recovery figures, ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu (SAN) revealed the figures during an end-of-year event in Abuja that celebrated retiring staff and recognised outstanding employees.

Dr. Aliyu described 2025 as “a pivotal year marked by substantial progress across enforcement, prevention, and public enlightenment.” The commission investigated 263 cases, surpassing its target of 250, and filed 61 cases in court, achieving a 55.74% conviction rate.

Among notable achievements was the conviction of Prof. Cyril Ndifon of the University of Calabar, who received a five-year prison sentence for sexual harassment and cyberbullying offences. The chairman noted that the judgment demonstrated the commission’s determination to address all forms of abuse of office.

ICPC also conducted preventive activities across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), assessing 344 MDAs using the Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard, executing 66 corruption-monitoring activities, and completing 1,490 project-tracking exercises nationwide. System studies and corruption risk assessments were conducted in 12 MDAs to strengthen structural safeguards against corruption.

On public outreach, the commission engaged over 235,000 Nigerians through 644 sensitisation events, generated 3.5 million digital interactions, established 86 Anti-Corruption Clubs and Vanguards, and trained 2,707 participants at the ICPC Academy. Collaborative efforts included 15 joint initiatives with partners, while civil society organisations carried out 57 complementary activities.

Highlighting internal achievements, Dr. Aliyu announced that the ICPC had successfully secured the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) allowance for staff for the first time and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to personnel welfare and institutional capacity building.

He praised award-winning staff and retiring employees for their dedication and professionalism and urged all personnel to uphold integrity, diligence, and unity of purpose as the commission enters the new year.

The event also featured goodwill messages from Mr. Victor Muruako, Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Ms. Souad Osman-Aden, Executive Director of the Coalition for Dialogue on Africa, and Dr. Umar Yakubu of the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity, all of whom commended ICPC’s achievements in asset recovery, transparency, and anti-corruption efforts.
