IGP Disu Swears In New DIGs Amid Police Reshuffle

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, on Monday decorated newly promoted Deputy Inspectors-General of Police (DIGs), urging them to strengthen intelligence-led policing across Nigeria. According to Ireporter Online, Disu called on the senior officers to enhance inter-agency collaboration and improve operational coordination within the force.

The newly decorated DIGs include Zachariah Fera Achinyan, Zango Ibrahim Baba, Isyaku Mohammed, Margaret Agebe Ochalla, Mohammed Abdul Sulaiman, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, and Umar Shehu Nadada, while Fayoade Adegoke had been decorated the previous week.

During the ceremony, the IGP highlighted that the promotion placed the officers in key leadership roles, emphasizing the need for accountability, operational efficiency, and citizen-focused service. “Your leadership must inspire confidence within the Force and trust among the citizens we are sworn to protect. Let your tenure at this level be defined by discipline, fairness, transparency and service,” he said.

Disu stressed that the rank of Deputy Inspector-General represents one of the highest levels of professional trust in the police, requiring integrity, courage, and commitment to justice. He added that the DIGs are expected to provide strategic leadership, strengthen internal discipline, and support reforms aimed at repositioning the Nigeria Police Force.

Addressing emerging security challenges, including organized crime, cyber-enabled threats, and violent criminal networks, Disu underscored that the officers’ responsibilities extend beyond operational command to shaping responsive policing strategies. He urged them to maintain professionalism and accountability while helping transform the force into a technologically advanced and citizen-focused institution.

The IGP also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting efforts to enhance police operational capacity and lauded the Police Service Commission for ensuring transparency and professionalism in the promotion process.
