I’m Eager To Collaborate With Burna Boy – Ayra Starr
According to Ireporter Online, Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has expressed her desire to collaborate with Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy, describing him as the artist she most hopes to work with. The revelation came during a Billboard interview released on Thursday, January 29, 2026, where she discussed her 2026 Grammy nominations with Love Island USA personality Chelley Bissainthe.
Ayra Starr, whose real name is Sarah Oyinkansola Aderibigbe, noted that despite having collaborated with several artists, Burna Boy remains her top choice for a future project. “Everybody knows Burna Boy is like my number one person I want to collaborate with. I’ve collaborated with a lot of people, and I still want to collaborate with many more people,” she said.
The singer recently received a Grammy nomination in the Best African Music Performance category for her song Gimme Dat, a collaboration with Wizkid released on April 25, 2025. The full list of nominees was announced in November 2025, ahead of the award ceremony scheduled for February 1, 2026. Reflecting on the recognition, Ayra described the nomination as a boost to her confidence and a validation of her artistic journey, noting that while her first nomination was shocking, the second brought a sense of inner peace.
Ayra also shared insights into the creation of Gimme Dat, revealing that she only discovered the song’s sample, drawn from Wyclef Jean and Mary J. Blige’s 911, during the recording process. She credited Don Jazzy for pointing it out, which prompted her to research and appreciate the song’s origins. She added that learning the recording studio once belonged to Wyclef Jean made the experience feel purposeful.
The singer further described challenges faced during the recording, including struggling with her voice over the first two days. Nevertheless, she remained committed to delivering her best, relying on effort and studio support to achieve the final sound. She revealed that Gimme Dat was initially intended as a solo track, recorded months before Wizkid joined the project, and that his involvement eventually felt natural and timely.
