Impeachment Drama: “I Am Still Rivers Governor” — Fubara Declares

According to Ireporter Online, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his authority as the sitting governor of the state, assuring residents that his administration remains committed to maintaining peace, security, and public safety.

The governor made the declaration on Saturday while addressing guests as the special guest of honour at the grand finale of the Port Harcourt Polo Tournament held in the state capital. He emphasised that protecting lives and property remains the primary responsibility of his government, stressing that he would not support any action capable of disrupting public order.

Governor Fubara stated that his administration would continue to fulfil the promises made to the people of Rivers State, insisting that governance remains firmly on course despite prevailing political tensions. He noted that the peaceful conduct of the week-long polo tournament served as clear evidence that Rivers State is safe for residents, visitors, and potential investors.

He expressed satisfaction with the absence of security incidents throughout the tournament, describing it as a strong indicator that government efforts to ensure stability are yielding positive results. According to him, a secure environment is the foundation of effective governance and economic growth.

However, the governor lamented the recurring political challenges confronting the state, observing that such issues have coincidentally emerged during the polo tournament for three consecutive years. Reflecting on past experiences, he described previous periods as particularly difficult, adding that the current year had also presented unexpected political complications.

Despite these challenges, Governor Fubara assured that his administration would remain focused on its duties and continue to support individuals and organisations genuinely committed to the development of Rivers State. He also pledged the state government’s readiness to upgrade the Port Harcourt Polo Club, which is widely recognised as one of the finest natural-grass polo facilities in Nigeria.

The governor encouraged local and foreign guests to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Port Harcourt and to help correct negative perceptions about the state by sharing positive and accurate accounts of their experiences. The event attracted several dignitaries, including the Argentine Ambassador to Nigeria, alongside polo players from across the country, with international teams from India and Argentina also participating.
