INSECURITY: Hon Dennis Idahosa Moves Motion On The Need To Address Increased Violent Attacks In Edo State(Photos)
The lawmaker representing Ovia Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon Dennis Idahosa today moved a motion on the need to stem the rising spate of insecurity in Edo State.
Edo State recently has been on the receiving end as regards incessant attacks and violent activities by bandits, kidnappers, robbers, cultists and other mischief makers.
The lawmaker drew the attention of the lawmakers to the pathetic incident that occurred on the 31st of January, wherein herdsmen invaded farmlands in Igolo and Abumwenre II Communities in Ovia Federal Constituency, leaving one person dead and at least two wounded with gunshot injuries.
The youthful legislator also noted persistent invasion and attacks by armed herdsmen on farmlands in Ologbo-Nugu, Umogun-Nokhua, Orogho, Urhehue, Evboesi, Evbuonogbon, at the border of Edo and Delta state which led to loss of lives and properties as well as the destruction of agricultural produce of residents who are mostly farmers.
Mentioning other heartbreaking incidences the lawmaker listed the murder of a father and his three kids in Evgbonogbon community, the kidnapping and raping of seven women which occurred on the third of February, also the murder of Doctor Otote Osaikhuomwan as well as other depressing incidences.
The house which held a minute silence over the departed souls directed the Nigeria Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) to beef up security operations in the affected areas to safeguard lives and properties.
They also urged the IGP and other security agencies to do the needful in bringing all the culprits to justice.
The house mandated the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials to the victims in order to ameliorate their suffering.
