Insecurity Nightmare: Benue Rep Holds Governor Alia Responsible for Lawmakers’ Plight”

Terseer Ugbor, the lawmaker representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency in Benue State, has expressed deep concern over being sidelined — along with other federal lawmakers — from key stakeholder meetings convened by Governor Hyacinth Alia.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, Ugbor attributed the worsening security crisis in the state to the absence of coordination among political leaders and what he described as Governor Alia’s “bad politics.”

The lawmaker lamented that despite his repeated efforts to engage with the state government, including direct requests to be invited to discussions, he has received no response.

“Sadly, there’s been very little synergy or engagement between the Benue State Government and National Assembly members,” he said. “Since my election to the House of Reps, I’ve never been invited to the Government House for any kind of consultation — even though my constituency is one of the hardest hit by insecurity.”

Ugbor noted that he had reached out to relevant agencies like NEMA to bring relief to his people, but said his involvement in state-led initiatives has been completely ignored.

“We’re excluded from stakeholder engagements. For instance, when a security committee was recently formed to address the insecurity in the state, no National Assembly member was invited. It’s as if the Benue State Government doesn’t consider us relevant or necessary to the conversation,” he said.

He described the exclusion as purely political, citing a specific case from his own local government. “Even when a security committee was set up to address issues in my own LGA, I wasn’t invited. What else could that be if not bad politics?”
