The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has firmly cautioned against any attempt to associate Finland-based Nigerian Simon Ekpa with its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The group clarified that Ekpa has, on multiple occasions, disassociated himself from IPOB and its activities.

In a statement issued on Monday by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, the group described recent reports linking Ekpa to its leadership as false and misleading.

“Simon Ekpa is not affiliated with IPOB. He does not speak for us, represent us, or act in our name,” the statement emphasized.

IPOB stressed that any effort to connect Ekpa to its organizational structure or to Kanu is baseless and deceptive.

The group called on both the Nigerian public and the international community to disregard any claims suggesting that Ekpa is acting on its behalf.

Reaffirming its dedication to peaceful agitation and the lawful pursuit of self-determination, IPOB reiterated its focus on the unjust detention and extraordinary rendition of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu. It also urged the relevant authorities to comply with court rulings on Kanu’s case.

“We are steadfast in our peaceful struggle for justice and equity and urge the public to rely on verified information,” the statement concluded.
