Iran Carries Out Execution Of Man Found Guilty Of Spying For Israel After June War

Iran has carried out the execution of a man convicted of spying for Israel, in what authorities describe as part of intensified security actions following the 12-day conflict between the two rival nations in June.

According to Ireporter Online, Iran’s judiciary confirmed on Saturday that the sentence was enforced after receiving final approval from the Supreme Court and upon the completion of all legal procedures. The executed individual was identified as Aghil Keshavarz.

Judicial officials stated that Keshavarz was found guilty of espionage activities on behalf of Israel, including maintaining contact and cooperation with the country and gathering sensitive intelligence. He was accused of photographing key military and security installations across strategic locations.

Official court records indicated that Keshavarz was apprehended between April and May in the northwestern city of Urmia. Authorities described him as an operative linked to Israel’s foreign intelligence service, Mossad. Prosecutors reportedly presented his confession during trial proceedings.

Further details released by the judiciary alleged that the convict carried out multiple intelligence-related missions, including surveying targeted sites, installing tracking devices, assessing traffic movement along specific routes, and conducting public opinion polling, all under directives allegedly received from Mossad handlers.

The execution comes in the wake of the unprecedented military confrontation between Iran and Israel that erupted on June 13, when Israel launched extensive airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities, as well as residential areas. Iran responded with coordinated drone and missile attacks, triggering a conflict that lasted 12 days and later involved the United States striking Iranian nuclear sites.

The war halted ongoing diplomatic negotiations between Tehran and Washington aimed at reviving talks on Iran’s nuclear programme and marked the first prolonged direct confrontation between the two adversaries, following years of indirect engagements.

A ceasefire brokered on June 24 brought the fighting to an end. Since then, Iranian authorities have pledged swift prosecution of individuals accused of collaborating with Israel, announcing numerous arrests and confirming the execution of at least ten people convicted of espionage-related offences.

Iran, which does not recognise Israel as a state, has repeatedly accused it of orchestrating sabotage operations against its nuclear infrastructure and assassinating Iranian scientists. In October, Tehran further strengthened its espionage laws, explicitly targeting alleged spies working for Israel and the United States.

Under the revised legal framework, individuals convicted of such offences face asset confiscation and capital punishment, a significant shift from previous legislation that did not automatically impose the death penalty for espionage.

The latest execution highlights Iran’s uncompromising stance on national security amid ongoing regional tensions and heightened scrutiny of alleged foreign intelligence activities.
