Israel Confirms Death Of IRGC Naval Commander In Precision Strike

According to Ireporter Online, the Israeli government has confirmed the killing of Alireza Tangsiri, Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy, in a targeted military operation. The development was announced by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz on Thursday, who stated that Tangsiri was killed alongside several other senior IRGC officials whose identities have not yet been disclosed.

Katz accused Tangsiri of playing a central role in military operations aimed at the strategic Strait of Hormuz, saying the commander was “directly responsible for the terrorist act of bombing and blocking the Strait of Hormuz.” He added that Tangsiri was “blown up” during the operation.

Tangsiri, a prominent figure in Iran’s military hierarchy, had led the IRGC Navy since 2018, following his tenure as deputy commander from 2010. Known for his staunch opposition to Western influence in the Middle East, he had frequently issued warnings regarding activities in the Strait of Hormuz via an (formerly Twitter) account active since March 10. In one post, he reportedly declared that “no vessel associated with the aggressors against Iran has the right to pass through” the waterway.

Tangsiri had previously threatened that Iran could close the Strait if international sanctions affected the country’s oil exports. In 2019, the United States Treasury imposed sanctions on him and other IRGC commanders after Iran shot down a US surveillance drone near the Strait. As of filing, Iranian authorities had yet to confirm or comment on the reported strike.
