Colombia captain James Rodríguez has been hospitalized for three days following severe dehydration, sustained after last weekend’s friendly match against France. The match, held in Maryland, ended in a 3-1 defeat for Colombia as part of preparations for this summer’s FIFA World Cup.

According to a statement from the Colombian Football Federation, Rodríguez, currently playing for Minnesota United FC, was admitted to a hospital in Minnesota for 72 hours for preventive clinical monitoring and recovery. The federation clarified that his condition is unrelated to musculoskeletal injuries or his football activities.

Rodríguez played just over an hour in the match in Landover before being substituted. Officials reported that the midfielder has shown steady improvement and has now returned home to continue his recovery. He also participated in Colombia’s recent friendly against Croatia.

Having earned over 100 international caps, Rodríguez is expected to lead Colombia at the World Cup, where the team will compete in Group K against Portugal, DR Congo, and Uzbekistan.
