JUST IN: Adamu, Ngige Told To Resign

ASUU

The Ministers of Education and Labor, Adamu Adamu and Dr. Chris Ngige, have been called upon to resign immediately for “mismanaging the country’s university education system,” according to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch at the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ogun State.

Dr. Rufai Kazeem, the chairperson of ASUU-TASUED, made the statement on Monday at a protest held by the branch to educate the public about the demands of the union that the government has not complied with.

In his speech titled “Tracing the Recent Trajectory of Government’s Disservice to University Education Through an Attempt to Balkanize ASUU,” the ASUU TASUED chairman said that the Federal Government had failed to fulfill its obligation to finance education.

He argued that the 2009 FGN/ASUU agreement should be ratified and that the federal government must pay the academics’ unpaid salaries in full.

Kazeem stated, “Mallam Adamu Adamu and Dr. Chris Ngige, the ministers of education and labor, should resign from their positions as a result of their poor management of the nation’s system of higher education.

“Dr. Chris Ngige registered with the National Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA) and the Congress of Nigerian University Academics (CONUA) with the intention of inciting unhealthy rivalry among academic unions on our university campuses.

We sincerely believe that our efforts will not be in vain and that Nigeria will one day have a highly competitive university education system that will draw students and teachers from both inside and beyond the nation.
