Just In: DHQ Confirms 100 U.S. Military Personnel Arrive Nigeria
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed the arrival of approximately 100 United States military personnel and equipment in Nigeria to enhance capacity building within the Armed Forces of Nigeria. According to Ireporter Online, the deployment forms part of a bilateral defence cooperation framework between Nigeria and the United States, initiated at the request of the Federal Government.
Military authorities disclosed that the U.S. trainers landed at the Bauchi Airfield following agreements reached during a joint working group meeting between officials of both countries. The discussions reportedly addressed identified training gaps, technical assistance requirements, and intelligence-sharing needs within the Nigerian military structure.
The DHQ clarified that the visiting personnel are technical experts assigned strictly to advisory and training roles. It emphasised that they will not participate in combat operations, noting that their presence is solely to provide specialised knowledge and operational support.
The military high command further assured that all activities related to the collaboration will be carried out under the authority and supervision of the Nigerian Government, in close coordination with the nation’s military leadership. The partnership is expected to grant Nigerian troops access to advanced technical expertise designed to strengthen their capacity to counter terrorist threats and safeguard vulnerable communities nationwide.
According to the DHQ, joint training exercises and intelligence-driven cooperation initiatives are set to commence immediately, with a focus on enhancing the ability of troops to detect and dismantle extremist networks seeking to undermine national stability.
Reaffirming its commitment to national security, the Defence Headquarters reiterated the determination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria to weaken and ultimately eliminate terrorist groups threatening the country’s sovereignty. It also pledged transparency throughout the collaboration and assured citizens of consistent, accurate, and timely updates on the ongoing military engagement.
