JUST IN: PDP Left Empty As 63 Chieftains Join APC (DETAILS)

On Friday, a total of 63 chieftains of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Idanre Local Government Area (LGA) of Ondo State made a significant move by defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Among those who defected were notable personalities such as Idowu Akinseye, the Chairman of PDP Elders’ Forum in the locality, Marcus Adeoti, a former Special Adviser to former governor Olusegun Mimiko, Lad Owoseni, former chairman of Timber Finishers, Brigadier Omogbemi, Chief Banji Kuroloja, who previously served as the Personal Secretary to the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Korede Duyile, and Prof. John Jejela, along with several others.

Speaking at a rally in Idanre, Prof. John Jejela stated that the entire PDP structure in the area had been disbanded in favor of the APC.

He emphasized that their move to the ruling party would strengthen the APC’s position in the upcoming LGA and governorship elections.

In his words, “On behalf of my fellow defectors and our followers, we express our gratitude for welcoming us into your fold. Today, we have dissolved the PDP structure in Idanre Local Government Area in favor of APC, and we pledge to bolster the strength of the APC in this region.”

The Chairman of APC in Ondo State, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, who received the defectors, acknowledged their political prowess, as they had been instrumental in securing victories for the PDP in previous elections. He expressed confidence that the APC would now consistently win elections in Idanre and its surrounding areas. He further mentioned that this mass defection was one of the largest the party had experienced in the locality.

Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, a former lawmaker, pointed out that the defectors were convinced to join the APC due to the satisfactory performance of the Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu-led administration in the state. He expressed hope that more members from the PDP and other political parties in Ondo State would soon follow suit and join the APC.

The Speaker of the Ondo House of Assembly, Olumide Oladiji, congratulated the defectors for their decision to actively participate in the APC instead of remaining neutral observers.
