Kaduna Declares War on Urban Crime, Drug Gangs

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has issued a stern warning to criminal gangs, making it clear that his administration will not condone activities that endanger citizens’ safety or disrupt public peace.

Speaking through his Deputy, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, at the launch of a Special Task Force on Community Policing and Drug Control in Kaduna on Wednesday, the governor stressed that those responsible for violence and the drug menace in the state would be brought to justice.

Balarabe noted that while security agencies have made significant progress in tackling banditry in rural areas, a troubling shift has been observed, with violence now infiltrating urban centres — a trend she described as “urban terrorism” that must be swiftly addressed.

She reiterated the government’s commitment to ridding Kaduna of violent crime and illegal drugs, assuring residents that efforts were underway to ensure streets, neighborhoods, and homes remain safe.

Addressing security personnel, Balarabe urged them to remain professional and not allow themselves to be compromised. She further appealed to citizens to cooperate with the task force by reporting drug hideouts, criminal syndicates, and those involved in trafficking stolen goods.

“Our communities must abandon the culture of silence,” she declared. “If you observe anything suspicious, speak up. Security is everyone’s responsibility.”

The newly inaugurated task force was charged to execute its duties with integrity, dedication, and a strong sense of accountability to the people of Kaduna State.
