Kano Residents Celebrate NNPP Candidate’s Victory (VIDEO)

Residents of Kano State defied the state government’s curfew on Monday to celebrate the victory of Yusuf Abba, the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party, in the state’s governorship election on Saturday.

Despite the curfew, residents were seen celebrating the victory of Abba.

Following tensions generated by the collation of results from the state’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections, the Kano State government imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in order to avoid a breakdown in law and order.

Mallam Muhammad Garba, Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, stated that the decision was made “to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in an already tense situation.”

According to the results announced by the state’s Returning Officer, Professor Ahmed Ibrahim, the NNPP candidate received 1,019,602 votes, defeating his closest rival, Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress, who received 890,705 votes.
